1X (formerly known as Halodi Robotics) is a humanoid robotics company based in Moss, Norway. The company was founded in 2014 with the mission to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent robots.[1] They have two robots: Eve and Neo. Eve was the first generation, a wheeled robot designed to train their AI models and collect real-world data. Neo is their second model, an improved, bipedal version of Eve which is still under development. Eve and Neo are designed for safe human interaction by reducing actuator inertia. The goal for Eve is to work in logistics and guarding, while Neo is intended to be used in the home.

The company is known for its high torque brushless direct current (BLDC) motor Revo1 that they developed in house. Those BLDC motors are paired with low gear ratio cable drives, and are currently the highest torque-to-weight direct drive motor in the world.

History

In 2020, 1X partnered with Everon by ADT Commercial, a commercial security solutions company, to deploy 150-250 humanoid robots in various buildings across the US for night guarding. This is a unique use-case for humanoids because other companies such as Figure and Tesla have been focusing on warehouse and factory applications.

In March 2023, the company closed a funding round of $23.5 million, led by the OpenAI Startup Fund, along with other investors including Tiger Global, Sandwater, Alliance Ventures, and Skagerak Capital.[2] The partnership with OpenAI has helped significantly for developing the AI system used in their humanoids.

In January 2024, 1X announced that they raised a $100 million Series B led by EQT Ventures, including Samsung NEXT and existing investors Tiger Global and Nistad Group.[3]
