Anthrobotics was founded in 2016 as a continuation of "Project '87", a 2014 collaborative community project centered around building real-life walking replicas of the animatronic characters from the Five Nights at Freddy's video game series. As the animatronics required a full-size humanoid robot to perform as mobile units rather than static displays, the scope of the project was expanded to develop a general purpose, highly customizable humanoid.
Development of the Anthro is ongoing, with the end goal of providing users and developers with a modular, highly customizable humanoid that can take on a diverse range of anthropomorphic appearances. The Anthro is intended to be used in any general purpose application, or in niche roles.
